Doors are used by passengers in a vehicle when entering or exiting a car. Though all cars have some sort of door, there are actually more options than you realize. For those looking to trick out their vehicle or just help set their car apart from the rest, there are 7 main types of car doors to choose from, allowing car users to make their cars just as unique as their own personalities.

1. Conventional Doors: Are the type used on the majority of new vehicles by car manufactures. These doors have hinges on the front edge of the door, and when the doors are open, they swing out from the vehicle.
2. Suicide Doors: The opposite of conventional car doors, they are hinged on the rear edge of the door, swinging in towards the vehicle.
3. Scissor Doors: Though these doors have a hinge on the front edge of the door, they then rotate up instead of swinging out. Usually they rotate slightly out before rotating up at 90 degrees.
4. Butterfly Doors: Very similar to scissor doors but while the doors rotate up the sides of the door also pivot towards the front.
5. Gull-wing Doors: These doors are hinged from the roof, and the weight for the car doors is squarely on the roof. The name gull-wings refers to the fact that when fully opened the doors give the impression of a seagull in flight.
6. Sliding Doors: These doors are mounted onto a track and open horizontally. Mainly found on minivans, minibuses and some commercial vans.
7. Canopy Doors: This car door is pretty rare and seen mainly on concept cars. With a canopy door, the opening is on the top of the car and lifts off in some way. The hinges on these car doors may be in the front, back or either side of the car.
